Fox River Fiber Becomes the Only De-inked Pulp Manufacturer Able To Support the Use of 100% Recycled Fiber With Direct Food Contact
PRLog - June 24, 2015 - DE PERE, Wis. -- It is a historic day in the world of post-consumer recycled pulp paper. After the long approval process by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Fox River Fiber has been granted a “no objection letter” for the use of their product in direct-contact food packaging.

As stated in the letter from the FDA, “The finished paper may be comprised of up to 100 wt-% of Fox River Fiber's recycled fiber.” Therefore Fox River Fiber's recycled pulp can be used to comprise 100% of food packaging material while being in contact with all types of food under all conditions of use.

This opens the door for companies to promote their sustainability programs by using 100% post-consumer recycled packaging. A popular national coffee chain has publicized that their signature cups are made with 10% post-consumer recycled paper fiber and have been since 2006. Fox River Fiber is the only company whose recycled pulp can completely make up a food container. This means that companies with sustainability programs can now produce their specialty packaging for direct food contact with up to 100% recycled fiber with no barrier required.

“This letter has been a long time coming,” says Ted Heimerman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Fox River Fiber. “The dedicated associates here at Fox River Fiber have been committed to making the premier deinked fiber in the industry. The FDA's no objection letter is validation of their hard work. Our goal is to continue working with customers to close the loop on their fiber waste streams through sustainable recycling methods.”

The teams at Fox River Fiber take office wastepaper, juice box or gable-top packaging, siliconized paper and other papers and recycle it into clean, high quality pulp. They also produce fiber for printing & writing and tissue manufacturing companies in addition to the newly approved FDA compliant food containers. Recycled pulp isn't the only way they are being green. Fox River Fiber also take steps to reduce natural gas usage, electrical usage, and water consumption. So far, Fox River Fiber has recycled over 2,000,000 tons of waste paper resulting in over 26,000,000 trees saved.

Fox River Fiber was a finalist for Manufacturer of the Year award in Wisconsin in 2014, earned the Best Places to Work Award from the Pulp and Paper Manufacturers Association (PPMA) in 2013 and the Business Friend of the Environment award from Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce in 2011. The company continues to make a difference by its focus on collaboration, innovation and green initiatives.
