ER Plumbing Services is partnering with Channel 9 Family Focus, a community initiative program that began at WSOC-TV over 25 years ago.

Channel 9 Family Focus runs three major campaigns each year. These campaigns include the following: Steve’s Coats for Kids in January, 9 Summer Food Drive in June, and 9 School Tools in August.

WSOC-TV’s Steve’s Coats for Kids campaign is a part of the Channel 9 Family Focus brand and was introduced in 2005. Steve’s Coats for Kids campaign runs from January 6-15, 2016. Over the last 11 years, this campaign has been a labor of love brought together through various partnerships. All coat donations are distributed through Crisis Assistance Ministry serving the Charlotte area since 1975. An independent non-profit agency, Crisis Assistance Ministry focuses on preventing homelessness and preserving dignity for Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s working poor — providing assistance with rent, utilities, clothing and furniture. Steve’s Coats for Kids has collected nearly 100,000 coats in the last 10 years. Every coat donation spends less than 48 hours in the Crisis Assistance Ministry Free Store before benefitting someone in need.

WSOC-TV’s Channel 9 School Tools campaign is a part of the Channel 9 Family Focus brand and was introduced in 1997. Covering over 22 counties, this is the largest school supply drive in the Carolinas and has served over 3 million children to date. In partnership with Communities in Schools Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Classroom Central, WSOC-TV collects school supplies for two weeks during the month of August, which are then distributed to students in grades K—12. These items play a big role in preparing students to be successful in the upcoming school year.

The Channel 9 Summer Food Drive provides relief for families usually dependent on school programs. Summer is the most difficult time of the year for the Second Harvest Food Bank and the children that they help to feed. With school no longer in session and over 265,000 area children currently receiving a free or reduced lunch during the school day, many children will not receive the once guaranteed two meals a day. “Did you know over 75,000 children in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System alone benefit from this lunch program and more than 600,000 people in our area are living at or below the poverty level? That’s why we are determined to help out through this campaign,” says Parker, owner of ER Plumbing Services. “We are committed to serving the local community.” The 9 Summer Food Drive, benefitting The Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, comes at an especially critical time as area emergency pantries served by SHFBM report increases in requests for assistance and giving is at a low point for the year.

ER Plumbing Services will also sponsor a substantial portion of commercial airtime to Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte. The community service commercial will highlight the efforts of Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte and encourage donations and volunteers to RMHC.

In 2015 alone, Channel 9 Family Focus has sponsored Art with Heart benefiting Safe Alliance, March for Babies, Takes Steps to End Crohn’s and Colitis, Greater Charlotte Heart Walk benefiting American Heart Association, Hopebuilders 5k benefiting Levine Children’s Hospital, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer benefiting the American Cancer Society, Walk with Me Charlotte benefiting Easter Seals, and Over the Edge benefiting NC Special Olympics.
