EPA Recognizes World Wide Technology for Leading Green Power Use

World Wide Technology, Inc. (WWT), a market leading technology integrator, announced today that it has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its use of green power in keeping with its membership in the EPA’s Green Power Partnership program. WWT is using more than 4 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 20 percent of the organization's electricity use. WWT is buying renewable energy certificates (RECs) from 3Degrees.

“WWT has long been committed to using sustainable and renewable resources as we continue to expand,” said Jim Kavanaugh, chief executive officer of WWT. “We are extremely proud to be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for our proactive choice to transition from traditional sources of electricity generation toward cleaner renewable energy alternatives.”

Green power is zero-emissions electricity that is generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, eligible biomass and low-impact hydro. Using green power helps accelerate the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide and helps users reduce their carbon footprints.

“The EPA is excited to welcome World Wide Technology as a Green Power Partner and applauds their purchase of green power and its support of the voluntary renewable energy market,” said James Critchfield, program director of EPA’s Green Power Partnership. “World Wide Technology is helping to reduce harmful air pollution and demonstrating that using green power is smart for the environment.”

With rapid growth and expanding markets, WWT has taken great care to not only be on the leading edge of innovation, but to also be responsible and protective of the environment. According to the U.S. EPA, WWT’s green power use of more than 4 million kWh is equivalent to the electricity use of nearly 400 average American homes annually.

Further reinforcing WWT’s commitment to a connected workplace and sustainability, the company’s global headquarters combines intelligent building structures and efficient energy consumption, including LEED environmental and sustainable construction best practices, Cisco TelePresence to reduce global travel and CO2 emissions, recycled building materials and Energy Star rated appliances.

WWT’s mission to conduct business in a manner that is socially and environmentally responsible is reflected in its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, which sets a course to use the company’s resources, influence and leadership presence in the industry to positively impact people communities and the environment.
