Continuing its efforts to mentor young African-American males, LEAP, LLC joins the Northern Virginia Urban League to provide another scholarship to an outstanding student.
WASHINGTON - May 2, 2016 - PRLog -- On Friday, one of the LEAP organizations partnered with the Northern Virginia Urban League (NVUL) to provide the Dr. Clayton G. Lawrence Endowment for Academic Excellence Scholarship to a deserving high school student. As a sponsor of the NVUL's 26th Annual Community Service and Scholarship Awards Dinner, Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals (LEAP), LLC took the reins on offering support for the event, after its sister non-profit, LEAP Foundation DC, was the first to partner with the NVUL in 2014.

Dr. Clayton Lawrence, in his leadership of the LEAP organizations, has been actively involved with, engaged in, and committed to mentoring youth, specifically young African-American men, in an effort to help build the next generation of leaders in the greater Washington, D.C. area. "LEAP, LLC is proud to serve its community with the healthcare services it offers, but our work in healthcare cannot compare to the importance of making certain that we are actively involved in helping foster, inspire, and open paths of opportunity for the young people that will eventually lead our communities and our nation," stated Dr. Lawrence. "The Northern Virginia Urban League has an unbelievable commitment to empowering minority youth, and I am always passionate about the opportunity to work with organizations that have a vision that aligns with causes that we consider to be of the utmost importance."

This year's scholarship was awarded to Landon Alexander Johnson. An inquisitive, tenacious, compassionate, and self-motivated student at Westfield High School, Landon is described as being a student leader with great integrity and a deep thirst for knowledge. Landon's A+ grade point average is evidence of his academic prowess, but equally as impressive are his extracurricular talents and his service to his community. Landon plays the trumpet in his high school marching band and is also a part of the jazz music ensemble. He is a member of the math honor society, participates in the ping pong club, and he also earned his black belt in martial arts prior to entering high school. Aside from his extracurricular endeavors, Landon regularly participates in volunteer work, donating his time to assist with local food drives and toy drives to help less fortunate families throughout the year.

Dr. Lawrence spoke about Landon stating, "Landon represents the very essence of students we know will be leaders of this next generation. It is our pleasure to name him the 2016 Dr. Clayton G. Lawrence Endowment for Academic Excellence Award Recipient, and we cannot wait to see all of the incredible things that he accomplishes in his future."

The prestigious event took place at the Army Navy Country Club at 2400 South 18th Street, Arlington, VA, 22202. To learn more about the NVUL and the work that the organization does, please visit www.nvul.org, and to learn more about LEAP, LLC, visit www.leap4staffing.com.
