“I Love You More Than went from being a book no one had ever heard of to a best seller in a matter of hours,” recounts Goldstein. “We were number 100 on the best seller list and we kept pushing, hoping and promoting the book. Before we knew it, we were in the thirties, then the tens and then we were number five. Then four. Three. We held at three for what felt like an eternity. Then we hit number two, and after about an hour, we were number 1.”
Goldstein’s goal was to create a timeless piece that Shale, and other children could cherish for years to come. She wanted to write a book that could be given as a gift to high school and university graduates, from parents and grandparents, between lovers and friends.
When asked where the concept of the book came from, Bree shared that in early 2016, Goldstein gave birth to her first child, a son whom she and her husband named Shale. One day she talking to Shale, describing her love for him, and what would later become I Love You More Than… flowed.
She thought of rhyme after rhyme, each illustrated a comparison of love in an easy to understand five to ten syllable sentence. At first the poem was merely a sweet idea, however as time went by Goldstein believed that the poem was pretty good and she could do more with it than reciting it verbally.
From there, I Love You More Than… was written.
During the process, Goldstein reflected on her favorite children’s book. It used animals to spelled out Shale’s name and she wanted to incorporate that aspect of customization into I Love You More Than…. With that in mind, the reader can personalize the last page by gluing their loved one’s photo into the book. The words reflect the personalization, and indicate that person is loved more than everything else.
Goldstein found an illustrator who shared her vision and together they created the book.
“Being a number one international best selling author is a great feeling, however the true joy, the real happiness comes from knowing that I made a gift for my son, and for others, around the world, to share,” states Goldstein.
