Indiegogo Campaign Continues To Raise Funds For Summer 2015 Film Project "As The Freak Takes You"
PRLog - Dec. 4, 2014 - LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Academy Award Nominee John Singleton has signed on to serve as Executive Producer of award-winning short film writer/director Ka’ramuu Kush’s debut feature film, “As the Freak Takes You.” Set in his hometown of Detroit and reminiscent of Spike Lee’s 30-year old classic film “She’s Gotta Have It,” Kush’s debut feature, “As the Freak Takes You,” follows the story of Summer Hughes, an omnisexual force of nature, as she navigates complex relationships with three lovers: a bi-racial lesbian, a bi-sexual white man and a celibate black man, while exploring the intersection of sexuality and spirituality. Filming is slated to begin the summer of 2015.
Singleton, who is currently in post-production having directed an episode of the upcoming FOX drama series “Empire,”met Kush while the fledgling director was writing the pilot for a scripted television series entitled “Solomon,” which is now in development. Singleton says he’s pleased to support a deserving and bold emerging talent. “His work is intelligent and visceral and he understands the craft”. Continuing Singleton adds, “I see an edgy, unapologetic disposition in his work. He deals with things that others are either afraid to deal with or unable to sensitively touch.”
“We need more stories about women,”Kush says, “and I think women want to see more stories about themselves that reflect their intelligence and depth without sacrificing things like sexuality and vulnerability.” Additionally, Kush adds, “John’s voice has always been daring and unapologetic. The fact that he gets me and is supporting my first feature, I couldn’t be more appreciative.”
Kush is on a mission to raise $100,000 (with a stretch goal of $200,000) towards the production of “As The Freak Takes You.” Being presented as “the sexiest crowd fund campaign on the internet,” his Indiegogo campaign offers a variety of unconventional rewards as incentives to donors including custom tailored leather jackets, love and relationship coaching from leading experts, one-on-one acting consultations with Hollywood casting directors and dance lessons with a renowned choreographer.
Thus far, the Indigogo campaign, which launched November 24th, has garnered the support of Woodie King, Jr.’s New Federal Theatre, IndieNight Film Fest in Hollywood, HTV/Illuminate, Skywalker Sound, Michelle Materre of Creatively Speaking, Michelle Manning of MM Productions and From the Heart Productions.
