Colorado Technical University Selects Andrew Hurst as President

Colorado Technical University (CTU) today announced Andrew Hurst, a 30-year veteran of private sector higher education, has been named president of the university.

Hurst brings significant operational and academic experience to this new role. A graduate of the University of Virginia, he has contributed to the development of distance education in private sector higher education since online education emerged in the 1990s. His broad experience and roles leading student success initiatives, developing new academic programs, running admissions operations, developing and recruiting faculty, improving student retention, and understanding key strategic trends in private sector higher education position him well to successfully lead CTU.

He joins CTU from Education Management Corporation (EDMC), where he most recently was Vice Chancellor for Online and Strategic Operations for South University. At South University, he oversaw all online operational aspects of the university, including marketing and admissions, student retention, faculty recruitment, student affairs, new program development, academic technology, program portfolio and assessment, academic strategy as well as research and development.

Beyond his role at South University, Hurst served as Vice President of Academic Operations for EDMC’s Online Higher Education division, as well as Chair of EDMC’s Education Innovation Council, supporting all of EDMC’s online programs offered by Argosy University, South University and the Art Institutes. During this period, he led the development and implementation of several key strategic projects, including EDMC’s “classroom of the future,” its mobile platform and competency-based program. Hurst first joined EDMC’s Online Higher Education division in 2004 as Vice President of Online for South University and later added the same position for Argosy University.

The CTU Board of Trustees recently confirmed his appointment. Hurst will be based at the university’s online campus headquarters located at Career Education’s Campus Support Center in Schaumburg, Ill.
