Higher open as CPI rises

On the downside


Officials in California are investigating the possibility that strong winds knocked down PG&E (NYSE: PCG) power lines that in turn may have sparked the wildfires raging in northern California.


President Donald Trump's threat to end health insurance subsidies for low income patients sent shares of Centene (NYSE: CNC) and Molina Healthcare (NYSE: MOH) plummeting.

Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) reported lower third quarter earnings and revenue.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 7 to 3 on the NYSE and by nearly 3 to 2 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 rose 5 points to 2,555. Bitcoin leaped $325 to $5,613.
