SCE Crews Making Progress Restoring Power in Wake of Storm; Some Customers Expected to Be Without Service Overnight

As rain, high winds and lightning move through the region, Southern California Edison (SCE) crews are making progress today restoring power to customers, but want to caution others that some may be without service overnight because of storm-damaged equipment.

SCE will continue to send additional repair crews to some of the hardest-hit areas to make repairs and restore electric service. Crews will continue to work through the evening hours. SCE appreciates residential and business customers’ patience as it continues to restore service.

As of 3:30 p.m. PST, there were 9,429 customers without service throughout SCE’s 50,000-square-mile service territory. The hardest-hit regions were Los Angeles County with 2,876 customers impacted, Tulare County with 1,723 customers affected, Ventura County with 1,578 without power and Orange County with 1,451 customers without service.

Customers may report or inquire about outages at 1-800-611-1911 and get the latest information using the SCE outages app at www.sce.com/outages, or at the SCE website, Twitter and Facebook pages.

SCE reminds customers to stay safe. If you see a downed power line or dangling wire — even if it appears not to be live — don’t touch or approach it or anything in contact with it and call 911 immediately.

Here are some additional important tips to remember:

  • Watch for traffic signals that may be out. Approach those intersections as four-way stops.
  • Make sure you have a battery-operated radio and flashlights. Check the batteries to make sure they’re fresh. Use flashlights for lighting during a power outage. Do not use candles because they pose a significant fire hazard.
  • If you use a generator, place it outdoors and plug individual appliances directly into it, using heavy-duty extension cords. Connecting generators directly to household circuits creates “backfeed,” which is dangerous to repair crews.
