Sell in May? Not Today as Dow Gains 117 Points, S&P Rises

So much for sell in May...at least for one day. After finishing the last week of April with its worst weekly loss since February , the S&P 500 gained 0.8% to 2,081.43 today, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 117.52 points, or 0.7%, to 17,891.16. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.9% to 4,817.59. Cumberland's Leo Chen examines the old maxim " sell in May and go away ," and finds that it's more about volatility than losses:
