Higher close after Catalan suspends independence

The markets closed higher with the Dow climbing 69 points to 22,830 after Catalan President Carles Puigdemont suspended its declaration of independence from Spain. Nasdaq rose 7 points to 6,587.


On the upside


AnaptysBio (Nasdaq: ANAB) reported positive proof-of-concept data from an ongoing Phase 2a clinical trial of ANB020 to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis.


KalVista Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: KALV) entered a collaboration agreement with Merck (NYSE: MRK).


H.C. Wainwright analyst Oren Livnat initiated coverage of MannKind (Nasdaq: MNKD) with a Buy rating and a $7.00 price target.

On the downside


Scotiabank reiterated its Hold rating on Apache (NYSE: APA).


Shares of Catabasis Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: CATB) continued to fall.

New Jersey Attorney General Christopher S. Perrino filed a suit against Insys Therapeutics (Nasdaq: INSY) alleging that the specialty pharmaceutical engaged in aggressive marketing tactics including off label uses of its opioid fentanyl drug Subsys.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 9 to 5 on the NYSE and by more than 3 to 2 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 rose 5 points to 2,550. Bitcoin surged $63 to $4,866.
