Waldorf School of the Peninsula educates children for the future in Silicon Valley–Screen Free

LOS ALTOS, Calif. - Oct. 19, 2018 - PRLog -- Parents, educators and the world at large grapple with the implications of the technological revolution embodied in the computers in our hands and on our desks. How to educate children in the age of screens and to prepare them for an unknown tomorrow has been the focus of many debates. Technology addiction is one aspect of that conversation, as are digital literacy and preparing children for a world nobody can predict for sure.

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Waldorf School of the Peninsula has been a center of attention for many years for its educational methods based on child development while eschewing the use of screen-based tools until children are developmentally ready in late middle school and high school. The school was featured on CNN This is Life with Lisa Ling, which aired Sunday, October 14, and was also the subject of a front-page New York Times article in October 2011.

"We educate children through a developmental approach so that they can become full human beings, discover who they are, the world at large, and how they can change it," said Pierre Laurent, Board President. "WSP eschews screens until they are no longer a limitation to children's learning and growth. We foster the mastery of the tool rather than have children be subject to it."

Waldorf education has understood for nearly a century that the full range of human intelligence comes from fostering strong and balanced bodies, healthy sensory development, multi-disciplinary discovery of the world, inspired emotional growth, and a passion for learning. Human capacities including creativity, emotional intelligence, and resilience are the foundation of a happy, productive, and meaningful life and best prepare children to manage and deal with the world of tomorrow. In 2014, WSP produced a short, award winning documentary (http://waldorfpeninsula.org/about-us/film/)) that helps people discover and learn about Waldorf education.

The Waldorf movement includes more than 1,100 schools and 1,700 kindergartens in 100 countries around the world, each operating independently and starting as a grassroots effort by parents and teachers.
