Trelleborg Expands Rapid Prototyping Capabilities

By: PRLog
RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. - Nov. 20, 2017 - PRLog -- Trelleborg's engineered coated fabrics business unit has expanded its prototyping capabilities by creating a new Polyurethane Rapid Prototype Center (PURPC) in its Rutherfordton, North Carolina, facility in the U.S. The PURPC lab will be similar to the existing rubber Rapid Prototype Center, but it will focus specifically on polyurethane, both water-based and 100% solvent-based coatings. The new lab will feature commercially available and custom formulations, and a wide range of substrate materials.

The new PURPC lab will give Trelleborg the capability to provide customers with polyurethane coated fabric samples much faster than previously possible. Steve Brockman, Vice President of Business Development for Trelleborg's engineered coated fabrics operation, says: "The success of our Rubber Rapid Prototype Center prompted this new investment in polyurethane development.  Our polyurethane coated and/or laminated fabrics serve in critical applications in the Aerospace, Defense, Medical, Outdoor & Recreation and Safety markets.  Our customers rely on us to help them innovate and our new PURPC lab will enable us to develop successful new products faster."

Always looking ahead to exceed customer expectations, Larry Brantley, Director of New Product Development for Trelleborg's engineered coated fabrics operation, says: "We are already looking into adding lamination capabilities to this lab in the future. This will enable us to produce laminated product samples just as quickly as coated products."

Trelleborg's investment in rapid prototype technology has enhanced its capability to meet ever-demanding market needs for safety applications on commercial aircraft, tactical gear for law enforcement and defense personnel, life-saving medical equipment, and a broad range of protective clothing applications.
