Miles Wine Cellars Makes Sparkling Debut

A Finger Lakes winery make local history carrying their sparkling Cache in a local grocery store.

Himrod, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/21/2019 -- Miles Wine Cellars now carries their sparkling Cache in a grocery store in Hammondsport, NY. This is the first winery in the area to have a local wine product in a grocery store, and this venture will hope pave the way for other Finger Lakes wineries as well. Buying wine in a grocery store has caused a huge debate with local wine growers and grocery stores for many years.

Recently Pennsylvania approved wine sales in grocery stores raising questions again for local businesses and wine lovers in New York.

"Having our product in a local grocery store is monumental," Suzy Hayes from Miles Wine Cellars says. "It's significant to continue this battle so other grocery stores to follow suit. We hope one day to have our wines as readily available as beer."

Cache is a wine product made from 100% farm estate grown Riesling. Early harvest for the winery promotes tropical wine products which have a lower alcohol percentage at 6%. Having this available to buy in a grocery store could create a trickle effect, making more wine lovers happy.

Currently, New York state liquor laws limit the sale of wine and spirits to liquor stores, but beer is available in grocery and convenience stores. The exclusion of wine, especially in the Finger Lakes area, has left some wineries feeling excluded. And although local liquor stores are happy to limit the wines on their own shelves, Miles Wine Cellars hopes to change this. For them, Cache is just the start.
