Dow closes at record 19,023

The market rally continued with the Dow gaining 67 points to 19,023, closing above 19,000 for the very first time. Nasdaq gained 17 points 5,386.


On the upside


Investors snapped up shares of AK Steel Holding (NYSE: AKS), Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE: CLF) and United States Steel (NYSE: X) after Goldman Sachs said that commodity prices are expected to rise.


Chico's FAS (NYSE: CHS) swung to a greater than expected profit for the third quarter.


Bargain hunters lifted shares of Superconductor Technologies (Nasdaq: SCON).


On the downside


Shares of DryShips (Nasdaq: DRYS) extended its losses.


Investors locked in profits of Opexa Therapeutics (Nasdaq: OPXA).


Vipshop Holdings (NYSE: VIPS) reported higher third quarter earnings and revenue but net margin fell.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 5 to 2 on the NYSE and by nearly 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 rose 4 points to 2,202. Bitcoin gained $5 to $744.
