Office Depot Inc. (NYSE: ODP) reported a smaller than expected loss for the first quarter of 21 cents per share compared with a loss of 6 cents per share in the year ago period and announced plans to close at least 400 stores. Shares of the office supplies retailer climbed 66 cents to $4.84.
