Duvinage Spiral Stairs Fabrication to Be Featured on 'How It's Made'

122-Year-Old American Manufacturer to be Showcased on Discovery Channel Show

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - October 20, 2017 - (Newswire.com)

Duvinage, the nation’s leading custom spiral stair manufacturer since 1895, announced that it is going to be featured in a new episode of the How It’s Made series on Discovery Channel. The episode will air in Canada on Oct. 30 and then again on Discovery’s Science Channel in the U.S.

“We were approached by the production company that produces the popular How It’s Made series to be featured on the show, and of course we said yes,” said Bob Maruszewski, president of Duvinage. “Their producers, writers, and crew did a fantastic job capturing all the key steps of our fabrication process.”

Filming took place in August 2016 at the Duvinage facility in Hagerstown over two days. “Stairs are an integral element of nearly every building, but rarely does the public have a chance to see how they are manufactured – let alone to see how a spiral stair is made, with its many geometric intricacies. Every detail counts and the skilled craftsmanship required is impressive. We think people will have fun seeing Duvinage doing what it does best – making world-class stairs,” said Maruszewski.

The stair produced during the Duvinage segment of the upcoming television show is a custom spiral stair made from steel with wood treads and a wood handrail. “This is a perfect example of the type of stair we’ve been producing for more than a century,” said Maruszewski. Duvinage manufactures a wide range of metal stairs for commercial, industrial, and residential applications.

The segment, which is part of How It’s Made Season 30 Episode 6, will air on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at 8:00 p.m. ET on Discovery Channel in Canada. In the U.S., it will air on How It’s Made Season 15 Episode 19 on a future date on Science Channel.

This is the third time a Duvinage spiral stair has been featured on national television in recent years. In 2010, the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition series on ABC showcased a Duvinage spiral stair at the Girls Hope House in Baltimore. Prior to that, Planet Green featured a Duvinage spiral stair in the World’s Greenest Homes series.

“Duvinage stairs have been on TV before, but this was a nice chance to show off our talented people making great products that are both functional and captivating,” said Maruszewski.
