Criteria

To be eligible for the list, companies must have been: privately held for all three years covered by the award period, 2011 to 2013; headquartered in the Silicon Valley; a privately held corporation, proprietorship or partnership through the end of the most recent fiscal year. They must have had: at least a three-year sales history with an increase in revenue in fiscal 2013 over 2011; at least $200,000 in sales in 2011 and have been in business for that entire year. All companies had their financial documents verified by contest auditor, Sensiba San Filippo.

The rankings were announced at a private awards dinner at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View on Oct. 23, 2014 and included in a special "Fast Private" section of the Silicon Valley Business Journal.
