GCE today announced that the firm's Founder and CEO Ray Muslimani has been appointed to the TechAmerica Foundation Big Data Commission. The Commission launched in May 2012 with the stated objective to better define Big Data and provide guidance on how government agencies can more effectively leverage Big Data solutions to manage and benefit from growing volumes of data.
GCE has operated at the forefront of Big Data innovation for several years. Earlier this year the firm launched the GCE Big Data & Analytics Cloud, a highly scalable Big Data framework for storing and managing data, and a toolset for performing consumer-grade search and analysis on that data. Multiple government agencies currently utilize the GCE Big Data Cloud, and it was recently leveraged by the General Services Administration (GSA) for its USASpending.gov website, one of the most widely used websites to track and analyze Federal spending.
The TechAmerica Big Data Commission builds on momentum generated when the Obama Administration earlier this year announced a $200 million "Big Data Research and Development Initiative." The Commission will focus on demystifying the term "Big Data," understanding the velocity, variety, and complexity of data, and defining the key business outcomes and use cases Big Data will serve. More specifically, it will examine sensor networks, social networks, social media data analysis, astronomy, atmosphere science, genomics, biological and other interdisciplinary scientific research, military surveillance, medical records, full-motion video, and large-scale e-commerce endeavors.
Muslimani joins a Commission chaired by Steven A. Mills, Senior Vice President and Group Executive, Software & Systems, IBM Corporation and Steve Lucas, Global Executive Vice President and General Manager, SAP Database & Technology. Serving as vice chairs of the Commission are Teresa Carlson, Vice president Global Public Sector, Amazon Web Services and Bill Perlowitz, Chief Technology Officer, Science, Technology and Engineering Group, Wyle.
"I'm pleased to have the opportunity to join such an impressive group of Big Data experts and thought leaders on the TechAmerica Big Data Commission," said Ray Muslimani, Founder and CEO, GCE. "We have a tremendous opportunity across industry and government to help transform the promise of Big Data into reality, and I look forward to being a part of these efforts on the Commission."
