In the opening key note address of the "2014 Envestnet Advisor Summit: The Next Big Idea," Jud Bergman, Chairman and CEO, Envestnet, highlighted the importance of accelerating the progress of an advisor-centric paradigm with innovative technology.  "Our industry has reached a critical tipping point, and those advisors who embrace new ideas and technology will not only stand the test of time, but thrive," said Mr. Bergman. "Technology can both enable and disrupt, and when armed with our solutions, advisors can become more—not less—vital to investors."

Mr. Bergman described that central role in an upcoming research study called "Capital Sigma" from Envestnet's Quantitative Research Group.  Capital Sigma is Envestnet's term for the sum total of advisor-created value which includes financial planning and coaching, asset class selection and allocation, investment vehicle selection, portfolio construction and systematic rebalancing, and tax management.

Wrapping up Day One at the Advisor Summit, Envestnet | Tamarac  spotlighted enhancements to its integrated, web-based portfolio and client management software. Tamarac is  enhancing their portal functionality to provide more services in an engaging and interactive medium. Advisors will be able to use these client engagement tools to not only provide a higher service level to their existing clients, but also leverage the portal as a 24x7 storefront to attract new clients and be their first touch-point that can automate processes such as proposal generation and new account opening. It has also developed an iPad app to provide advisors with more client engagement capabilities. These enhancements will be rolled out later this year.

"Advisors' value-add is not just their investment strategies—it also encompasses the relationships they build with their clients and how their best ideas help direct those relationships," said Stuart DePina, Group President, Envestnet | Tamarac. "We are making significant investments to build out our powerful end-client interaction capabilities that will enable advisors to efficiently service more clients through an integrated client portal and mobile applications for smartphones and tablets."

Kicking off Day Two of the Advisor Summit, Envestnet President Bill Crager and Executive Vice President of Advisor Services, James Patrick, will discuss their forecast that technology-enabled advisors will be even more relevant five years from now.

"So-called 'robo-advisors' can never offer a substitute for the human touch investors require. These offerings provide consumers with limited automated investment services," said Mr. Crager. "Envestnet recognizes the next generations of investors are looking for interactive online services that deliver an engaging client experience. We are responding to this by delivering cutting-edge technology solutions that will enable advisors to attract and efficiently service their clients in innovative ways."
