Martha Boneta: Environmentalists Caught Luring Buyer with Apparently Fake Civil War Designation

RICHMOND, Va., March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- What happens if you found out your family has lived a lie for 8 years? Virginia family farmer, Martha Boneta is living that nightmare because her family discovered an environmental group sold her a farm based on what she claims is a fabricated Civil War historic site.

"When family farmers buy farms with agricultural easements, they expect to be able to farm in peace," said Boneta. "My family has been harassed for 8 years. We are shocked to learn there's no proof to support the historical designation."

An environmental group is charged with fabricating a significant Civil War historical designation with no factual evidence for claiming "Stonewall Jackson-Slept-Here" on Boneta's farm. The group forced Boneta to fence off 10+acres of her farm proclaiming "hallowed ground." Turns out, no it is not. The same group altered the Boneta contract without her knowledge or consent.  Boneta never received any tax credits, because in a highly unorthodox maneuver, the green group simultaneously gave themselves an easement while owning it just seconds before transferring title to Boneta.  It was discovered the same group also entered in to a secretive "Confidential Agreement" with realtors regarding the same farm 3 years after Boneta bought it.

The Virginia General Assembly responded with a family farm owner bipartisan protection bill, HB 1488, The Conservation Dispute Resolution Act, but damage had already been done.

"What good is protecting farmland if we aren't protecting the farmers?" said Bonner Conner with the Center for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT). "The only way to really protect and preserve farmland is to protect the farmers."  This bait and switch fabricated Civil War historic designation has brought scrutiny on conservation easements and the need for nationwide environmental group standards and accountability.

WATCHDOG named Martha Boneta in 2014 as 3rd in The Nation As "One of the Good Guys".  Country Woman Magazine named Boneta one of the "NATION'S AMAZING WOMEN". The Property Rights Foundation of America named Boneta the nation's "Property Rights Grassroots Leader" Award.

Martha volunteers teaching farming skills to inner city children and donates tons of vegetables to local food banks. A full-time farmer on Liberty Farm in Paris, Virginia, Martha's passion includes caring for over 180 farm animals, growing heirloom vegetables, culinary herbs and producing eggs and raw honey.
