English edition of award-winning book by Ronit Lowenstein-Malz released by MB Publishing in time for Holocaust Remembrance Day
PRLog - April 16, 2015 - BETHESDA, Md. -- MB Publishing has released the acclaimed Holocaust novel Escape in Time by Israeli author Ronit Lowenstein-Malz.

Originally published in Hebrew as Nes Shel Ahava (A Miracle of Love), the novel won the Yad Vashem Prize for Children’s Holocaust Literature in 2008. Its release in English coincides with Holocaust Remembrance Day.

This gripping novel, for ages 12 and up, is based upon actual memoirs of the author's family, the Enemans. When Grandma Miri is asked by her 12-year-old granddaughter, Nessya, if she is a survivor, Miri realizes it's time to share the details of her family's most harrowing and heartwrenching year.

The story opens in March 1944 when Germany crosses Hungary's border and soldiers arrive in Miri's hometown of Munkács. Suddenly, the Jews are trapped and in mortal danger.

Surrounded by unimaginable hatred and war, the Enemans narrowly escape two ghettos and then hide in plain sight of the Nazis and the Arrow Cross in Budapest. Despite many close calls—through ingenuity, courage, love, and amazing luck—all six of them survive.

Kirkus Reviews calls Escape in Time "an immersive page-turner. . . .  An exciting, distressing, and ultimately inspiring novel of hardship and family."

Midwest Book Review asserts that it is "a standout . . . truly riveting . . . to pair off quite nicely with Anne Frank's classic Diary."

Booklist writes, "Like Nessya, readers will be moved by the family's story."

And Jewish Book World declares, "The characters are crisply differentiated, superb illustrations help us relate to them, and suspense runs high."

Ronit Lowenstein-Malz, daughter of Miri Eneman Malz, was born in 1960 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and worked as an educator for more than 20 years. She is now the best-selling author of ten books and a winner of the Israel Public Libraries Association Award for outstanding children’s literature. Her original Hebrew edition of Escape in Time was beautifully translated into English by Leora Frankel.

This new edition is illustrated by the award-winning Canadian artist Laurie McGaw, who has also illustrated such treasured children’s books as Polar the Titanic Bear and Something to Remember Me By. A portrait artist as well, she has painted such luminaries as Norman Jewison and Oscar Peterson, and has also been commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mint to create art for coins celebrating such events as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the birth of Prince George.

MB Publishing produces picture books for young children, as well as chapter books, novels, and reference books. Titles include Sunny Bunnies, Paris Hop!, Avram’s Gift (also illustrated by Laurie McGaw), Celtic Run: A Jake McGreevy Novel, The Secret at Haney Field: A Baseball Mystery, and the upcoming print edition of The Scoop on Good Grammar.
