Higher Open As Oil Prices Slip

The markets opened higher with the Dow rising 29 points to 12,227 as crude oil prices continued to slip. Nasdaq gained 12 points to 2743.

On the upside

Shares of RadioShack (NYSE: RSH) continued rising as the company begins selling Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad 2 today.

TranSwitch (Nasdaq: TXCC) introduced yesterday the world's first family of integrated circuits that support HDMI and DisplayPort standards.

Hedge fund SAC Capital acquired a 4.8% stake in AK Steel (NYSE: AKS).

On the downside

CreXus Investment (NYSE: CXS) rejected an unsolicited acquisition offer from Starwood Property Trust and will proceed with an offering of 50 million common shares to raise approximately $575 million.

The three largest shareholders of Hertz Global (NYSE: HTZ) will sell 50 million shares of common stock.

Energy Transfer Partners (NYSE: ETP) priced its offering of approximately 12.35 million common units at $50.52 per unit.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 7 to 5 on the NYSE and by nearly 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks rose 3 points to 825.
