Director Announces Kickstarter Campaign to Complete the FilmBoston, MA/Warsaw, Poland – March 24, 2015 – Joshua Tebeau has been working on the documentary “Picking Up the Pieces” for over four years. He has filmed over 40 hours of footage and needs funding to finalize the film’s editing and post-production. The passionate director has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $7,500 by April 29th, 2015 so he can complete the documentary.
“Picking Up the Pieces” tells the story of Jewish children who survived the Holocaust. It recounts how they rebuilt their lives after surviving the trauma of the Holocaust. Most documentary films about the Holocaust focus on the events of the Holocaust itself, but few have focused on the challenges survivors faced when rebuilding their lives. Tebeau traveled in between Europe and North America to record intimate interviews with children, now adults in their 70s and 80s, who survived the Holocaust. The film’s interview subjects lived to build meaningful lives and contribute to their communities, some even achieving international acclaim.
Themes examined in the film are forgiveness, belief in God, Home and Memory. The documentary captures the hearts of audiences in this inspirational story of rebuilding. “Picking Up the Pieces” has received funding through the “Cost Family Award” from Deerfield Academy and from family members. Tebeau also received mentorship and support from Agora SA, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, and award-winning producers like Breakthru Films.
Now the team needs assistance to complete editing and support distribution goals. The Director hopes to have the final cut finished by June 2015. Then, the documentary will be sent to various film festivals for screenings in Summer/Fall 2015. Starting in Fall 2015, the goal is to have screenings arranged at Universities, Museums, as well as middle and high schools all around the United States and Europe. The Director hopes the film will be used in anti-racism education and Holocaust remembrances.
