Flat open as construction spending falls

The markets opened flat with the Dow slipping 2 points to 18,139 in reaction to an unexpected dip in September construction spending. Nasdaq eased a point to 5,188.


On the upside

Integrated Device Technology (Nasdaq: IDTI) reported better than expected earnings for the second quarter.


Amor Technology (Nasdaq: AMKR) impressed with sharply higher third quarter earnings and revenue.


On the downside


A judge upheld a jury's $70 million verdict against Neovasc (Nasdaq: NVCN) and added $21 million in enhanced damages.


Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) disappointed with a wider than expected loss for the third quarter.


Pitney Bowes (NYSE: PBI) reported lower third quarter earnings that fell short of expectations.


In the broad market, advancing issues barely edged out decliners by a slim margin on the NYSE and by more than 10 to 9 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 held eased a fraction to 2,125. Bitcoin leaped $24 to $724.
