The Dow Chemical Co. (NYSE: DOW) and E.I. du Pont de Nemours (NYSE: DD) engaged in discussions for a possible merger. Shares of Dow leaped $5.57 to $56.46 while du Pont stock jumped $7.94 to $74.54.
