The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, in response to the Senate’s passage of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation:
“We thank the Senate for passing TPA legislation to support the hundreds of thousands of American small- and medium-sized businesses that export products, creating new markets and driving U.S. economic growth.
“This legislation provides a much needed, balanced package that takes into account the realities of the digital economy and Internet era. This and all future trade agreements must balance intellectual property rights and an open-and-fair flow of commerce, helping to ensure our country’s strong, sustained economic growth.
“Americans thrive on trade and relish competition—we are not isolationists. Free trade encourages innovation and opens new markets to American manufacturers. We now urge House members to swiftly pass TPA legislation and keep our country strong.”
