Oclaro (Nasdaq: OCLR) reversed year ago losses to post a greater than expected profit for the first quarter as revenue surged.
Broadcom (Nasdaq: AVGO) will pay a premium of approximately $5.9 billion in cash to acquire Brocade Communications (Nasdaq: BRCD).
On the downside
Adeptus (NYSE: ADPT) fell to a loss for the third quarter as revenue slipped.
A preliminary review by the Food and Drug Administration of Cempra's (Nasdaq: CEMP) community acquired pneumonia treatment solithromycin noted that the drug caused an increase in liver enzymes.
Dynegy (NYSE: DYN) widened third quarter losses significantly.
In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by more than 7 to 5 on the NYSE and by more than 5 to 4 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 lost a point to 2,110. Bitcoin dropped $5 to $718.
