Mazda recalls 70,000 vehicles

The markets traded mixed during the midday with the Dow losing 26 points to 18,841. Nasdaq gained 39 points to 5,257.


Mazda Motor will recall approximately 70,000 model years 2004 to 2008 RX-8 sports cars to fix potentially faulty fuel pump sealing rings. Exposure to heat may cause the rings to deteriorate causing fuel to leak and possibly start a fire. The fuel pump sealing rings will be replaced for free.


United Continental made changes to its low fare tickets. People who purchase the airline's cheapest tickets will be restricted to only one carry-on bag that fits under a seat. Carry-on bags that fit in overhead bins will not be allowed. In addition, seats will not be assigned to low fare customers until departure day so families may be forced to sit in separate sections.


Non-profit artificial intelligence research firm OpenAI will run its large-scale experiments on Microsoft's Azure cloud service. OpenAI will conduct experiments in deep learning and collaborate with Microsoft to create new tools and technologies. OpenAI is backed by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Telsa chief executive Elon Musk, and Amazon Web Services.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 5 to 3 on the NYSE and by nearly 10 to 9 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 gained 6 points to 2,170. Bitcoin soared $8 to $710.
