Capella University Extends Specialized Learning Paths at the Undergraduate and Graduate Levels

Specialized learning opportunities offer today’s college students an approach that is tailored to their preexisting knowledge, skills and personal interests. Capella University is leading the way in higher education by now offering concentrations that provide a more specific path for undergraduate psychology, and undergraduate and graduate criminal justice degrees.

Capella’s programs are research-based, practically applied and designed for the challenges of tomorrow. With new concentration paths, students can dive deeper into specific knowledge areas based on their career goals, with no additional courses or costs.

“Specialized tracks like these are designed to help our students directly apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-life experiences,” said Andrea Miller, PhD, Dean of Psychology, Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Science. “With these new concentrations, they can hone in on a specific area within a discipline that is relevant to their professional goals and personal interests.”

To enable specialized learning for Capella’s bachelor’s degree in Psychology, the school is unveiling three new concentrations:

  • Addictions: Apply knowledge of theories, treatments and current research needed to respond to the psychological and behavioral aspects of addictions to prepare for careers, such as a psychiatric technician or intake worker.
  • Behavior Health: Pursue graduate level programs upon completion, or seek a variety of careers such as a case manager, crisis worker or victim advocate.
  • Forensic Psychology: Focus on criminal behavior and the roles forensic psychology professionals play in legal proceedings and treatment, and prepare for careers such as victim advocate or child protective worker.

The bachelor’s degree in psychology is designed around the American Psychological Association Guidelines for the Undergraduate Psychology Major and provides an up-to-date curriculum that delivers the competencies and skills students need.

New concentrations in Capella’s Criminal Justice graduate degree programs will give students the opportunity to design their own learning paths based on personal passions and career goals:

  • Criminology: Learn how to apply theoretical perspectives to real-world applications in the field related to prevention, treatment programs, and criminal justice system interventions.
  • Corrections: Examine the philosophies of punishment and rehabilitations, and the efficacy of the entire continuum of corrections programs, such as probation, parole, incarceration, and treatment modalities.
