CPSI Achieves “Approvable” Status from the Ohio Board of Pharmacy for CPOE, E-MAR and Pharmacy Applications
Computer Programs and Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CPSI), a leading provider of healthcare information technology to community and specialty hospitals, announced today that the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), Electronic Medication Administration Record (E-MAR) and Pharmacy applications of the CPSI System have achieved “approvable” status from the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. To achieve “approvable” status, CPSI worked with the Board to enhance the security of CPSI’s medication management solutions and validate compliance with the Board’s standards for the integration of positive caregiver identification.
An “approvable” designation provides hospitals in the state of Ohio with an authoritative and objective third-party review of the security functionality of medication management applications. Software products that obtain “approvable” status from the Ohio Board of Pharmacy may be installed in Ohio hospitals without further inspection. Since all three aspects of CPSI’s medication solution are now “approvable,” Ohio hospitals installing the CPSI System can achieve a closed-loop medication management solution that requires no additional software or hardware to meet the Board’s requirements.
In addition to being “approvable” for use on a hospital’s local area network, the Ohio Board of Pharmacy also determined that the CPSI applications are “approvable” for remote access. This means that CPSI’s medication management applications can be accessed securely from any location outside of the hospital by physicians to order medications or by pharmacists to verify those orders. Remote access is of particular benefit to community hospitals allowing them to increase caregiver access to patient information while helping them control costs. Regardless of where they may be located, physicians and pharmacists have access to the detailed patient information necessary to safely process medication orders without requiring 24 hour on-site staff.
