Telefonica raises the stakes in Vivo battle

Telefonica SA on Wednesday got the heavy artillery out in its campaign to gain control of Vivo Participacoes -- the Brazilian mobile operator it jointly owns with Portugal Telecom-- as it threatened to bid directly for the Portuguese carrier and curb payouts.
