R.J. Rahman Author, Inspired By Oprah, Rev. Al Sharpton, Chris Rock and Basketball

R.J. Rahman Author of the Revolutionary Book Entitled: Black Hair In the 21st Century Poetry, Discusses How the Courage of Oprah Winfrey, Rev. Al Sharpton, Chris Rock, India Arie and the Rutgers University Basketball Team Inspired Her to Write.

"It was what these outstanding people did that inspired me to write, states R.J. Rahman author/poet". Oprah Winfrey, her show inspired me over the years, I grew up watching her television show. Her shows inspire and transform people, and their lives with the innovative topics that Oprah covers. She also uses her show as a platform do discuss controversal issues. The shows that surround the Don Imus controversy, I must say are amongst my favorite shows. It was these shows that inspired me to write and publish my first book, thanks "Oprah".

Reverend Al Sharpton, I met him in Atlanta, Georgia at the Annual National Action Network Conference in August 2009. There I spoke with the Reverend and thanked him for standing up and using his radio show as a platform to demand that the talk show host Don
Imus be fired for his innappropriate comments made toward the African American females on the Rutgers Women's Basketball Team. Reverend Al Sharpton inspired me to keep on editing and writing.

Chris Rock's documentary "Good Hair", was powerful movie. This movie acted as a mirror it showed what many black women go through to have long straight hair. It showed the extreme appetite that the black community has for hair. This movie was a reality check for the black community. Chris Rocks movie inspired me to go back in history and explain why there are love/hate feelings associated with black hair in its natural state.

India Arie she shared her hair journey with the world with her song
entitled "I Am Not My Hair" She put black hair into its proper catagory hair. It's the soul that lives within that makes you who you are, hair can never do that. India Arie song showed me just how powerful poetry can be.

The 2007 Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team for being brave and having an undaunted stance when they stood up and demanded an apology from talk radio show host Don Imus for the
terrible comments made toward the African American female players
on the Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team.

All of these people listed above stood up with honor and courage for all African Americans. It was their stance, and boldness that inspired me to write.

R.J. Rahman's book entitled: Black Hair In the 21st Century Poetry That Gets to The Root of the Matter, is "the first book of its kind that addresses the Don Imus Controversy and the state of
black hair today". "Its also the first book of poetry that chronicles the history of black hair". This Book is endorsed by Dr. Cornel West and Nikki Giovanni.
