Alcoa Wheel Products Expands Wide Base Wheel Options

Alcoa Wheel Products announces its wide base wheel selection has expanded to include a 22.5 x 15 option. The new wheel, part number 856520, has been designed to replace dual wheels on transit applications.

The benefits of the new 15-inch wheel are comparable to Alcoa Wheel Products 14-inch wheels for heavy duty applications. The new 15-inch wheel weighs 71 pounds and carries a 13,500-pound maximum load rating. The new wheels will be available in June 2007.

Switching from aluminum duals to the Alcoa 15-inch wheel, 856520 and tire assembly, saves 150 pounds in weight per axle; additional fuel savings can be realized from the reduced rolling resistance associated with single wide tires. Significant weight savings can even result from replacing aluminum dualed wheels with the wide base wheel and tire combination.

Alcoa Wheel Products latest innovation satisfies the need for fuel savings in the transit market, said Victor Marquez, Alcoa Wheel Products director of marketing, commercial vehicle wheels, Americas. The new 15-inch wheel maintains all the benefits of our heavy duty super single wheels we are thrilled to offer these same advantages to another market.

As always, you get all the same advantages and value of Alcoa forged aluminum wheels in the new 15-inch wheels including:

  • Less weight for greater fuel efficiency and/or increased payload.
  • Better heat dissipation for extended tire and brake life
  • One-piece, forged in-strength that is 4.5 times stronger than steel
  • The widest selection of wheels and wheel accessories in the industry
