Author Qwantu Amaru examines themes of innocence, guilt, revenge, and redemption in debut book

PR Log - Dec 12, 2011 - Author Qwantu Amaru only met former KKK grand Wizard and politician David Duke once, but that was enough to inspire his 488 page debut novel being called “Simply Amazing” by early reviewers. This is a story Mr. Amaru, who grew up in Lake Charles, LA, was born to write. It may have taken him nearly twelve years to complete One Blood, set in and throughout his home state of Louisiana, but the book is quickly connecting with the public and making an indelible impression on early readers.

The reason why? “I think that people are always compelled by the story of an innocent man falsely accused, while the guilty party or parties live free. Look at the Troy Davis case. But the truth always comes out. If One Blood is about anything, it’s about the irrepressible power of the truth,” said Author Qwantu Amaru.

One Blood takes the reader on an epic journey that spans over 200 years and briskly moves from New Orleans to the fictional locale of Lake City, LA to Baton Rouge, to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. The novel revolves around a diverse cast of characters connected by a Voodoo curse from slavery.

“One Blood is a story about the power of suggestion and the beliefs that shape our lives,” Amaru writes in his synopsis. “There are secrets sealed in our blood, you see. The best answers, as always, lie within.”

Qwantu draws his inspiration from his modest upbringing in small towns and cities across the US. In addition to One Blood, Qwantu has published six volumes of poetry. He is also a well-known spoken word artist who has performed on stages from coast to coast. He currently resides in Jersey City, NJ.

One Blood is the 4th offering from The Pantheon Collective, an independent publishing venture based in Santa Cruz, CA, and is available as an e-book or paperback distributed by Ingram and Lightning Source.
