PR Log - Aug 23, 2012 - Joe Henry and his wife Susan began their roller-coaster ride through life despite the objections of both sets of parents. Add their mismatched social and religious differences into the mix and you have A Recipe for Disaster. Their life is a journey filled with joy and laughter, with a side order of misfortune and tears. Joe has a definitive talent for getting himself into difficult situations, whether at home or at work. Susan is a long-suffering wife and mother who can put up with many things, but even she has her limits. Joe's antics as he avoids responsibility and glibly tries to talk his way out of trouble are laughable; or at least he thinks so. Cry with Susan as she deals with the messes made by her husband and attempts to keep the family on track. Set mostly in the Ireland of the 1960s and onwards, the Henrys are a unique and entertaining family that will provide you with hours of hearty laughter.
Joe Henry, a salesman with Irish Office Machines, greets some VIPs from British Office Machines with an abbreviated sign declaring “BOM.” Ironically, Dublin Airport is closed when a woman sees the sign, screams “BOMB, BOMB,” and faints at his feet. Joe is interrogated and strip searched, which goes horribly wrong for the examining officer, and finally released. Because the VIPs were coming to initiate a hostile business takeover of IOM, Joe gets a bonus instead of getting fired. At home that night, he drinks a bit too much and the combination of booze and painkillers sends him back in time to when he met his wife. This is just the beginning of a hilarious rollercoaster ride through the mid-1960s. You’ll love the unpredictable nature of Joe’s marriage to Susan as they are from completely different backgrounds, Northerner/Southerner, Protestant/Catholic, Working Class/Middle Class, etc… Humor abounds in every scenario throughout this book and we know you’ll enjoy it!
About the Author: John Henry is an Irish author living in Dublin and has had an unorthodox journey through life. Geographically active, he has lived in throughout the UK, Europe and the Middle East. His careers have taken him from a hearing aid repairman to salesman and sales manager, to director of a large software company, followed by inventor and writer. He is socially gregarious yet in many ways a loner; financially erratic but always optimistic.
