Merck Serono and BMS Team Up to Offer Diabetes Drug to China

Merck Serono, a division of Merck KGaA, will collaborate with Bristol-Myers Squibb to promote China distribution of Glucophage®, the type 2 diabetes treatment known generically as metformin. Merck Serono discovered metformin in 1957. However, Bristol-Myers Squibb-SASS has been distributing the immediate-release formulation of the drug in China since 1999.
