PRLog - May 24, 2013 - NEW ORLEANS -- A collaborative project three years and three months in the making has culminated with the publishing of Love Letters From New Orleans, a book that celebrates the spirit and culture of New Orleans. Love Letters is a photographic and typographic statement that casts the city in both a positive and provocative light, framed to appeal to diverse audiences by revealing aspects and nuances of The Crescent City that may be unknown, or disremembered.

Either born, raised, or having lived in New Orleans, the three co-creators–Ness Higson (designer), Daymon Gardner (photographer) and Anthony Vachris (writer)–set out to create a book that distilled the essence of New Orleans in 26 concepts, one for each letter of the alphabet. Love Letters was painstakingly styled and assembled, which is partially the reason the project was three years in the making. In that time, the creators re-evaluated many spreads and had tabled five finished concepts before selecting those topics that they felt had the most universal appeal.

Gardner explains, "We spent an enormous amount of time working on the flow of the book in an effort to capture the essence of the city for tourists and locals alike. Concepts and layouts were changed in order to correctly show the proactive and historical culture of New Orleans."

Throughout the process, Higson, Gardner, and Vachris partnered with New Orleans-based artists and businesses to ensure authenticity in the final product. The trio further sourced local companies for book printing and apparel, and networked to find individual collaborators. Higson tapped Epilogue, a digital publishing company, to create an app experience of Love Letters. The app, which is currently available in through iTunes, was enhanced to include animation and sound.

Ron Domingue of Epilogue notes, "It’s a privilege to collaborate with Ness, Daymon and Anthony on this project, and see it go from an idea to an actual book and app. When you look at the caliber of talent involved with producing and marketing Love Letters, it definitely feels like you’re part of something special."

Love Letters From New Orleans is available for purchase online and at fine book stores throughout New Orleans. The iPad app is available through iTunes and is free for a limited time.
