The Traveling Vineyard has introduced five new wines, 1 white and 4 red. Rick Libby, Traveling Vineyard’s Chief Grape Stomper remarks, “We are thrilled to augment the list of wines we offer at wine tasting events with several new selections – everything from a Chardonnay/Riesling blend to an interesting varietal called Tannat.” These five releases are now available free when a host opens their home to the Traveling Vineyard for a wine tasting event.

Rick explains, “The Puzzle Pieces, Riesling/Chardonnay Blend, California (CAL933) $19.99 represents a wine that we have had many requests for over the years. Building on the enthusiasm be saw for a new 100% Riesling we rolled out earlier this spring, this release has a bit more heft. That’s because it includes more than 50% of the more full-bodied Chardonnay and small amounts of two other whites, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. We called it Puzzle Pieces because the components fit together perfectly like the pieces of a puzzle. It’s a great sipping wine, very accessible.”

“Sustainability has become a real focus for us with our grape-sourcing partners,” says Rick. “For many of our recent projects, we’ve chosen vineyards with environmentally friendly practices because we feel they offer a higher quality product.”

Francis Sanders, the Traveling Vineyard’s Wine Director, points out, “The 2011, Jump ‘N’ Jive, Tannat, Lodi, California (CAL934) $17.99 is one of our more interesting, eco-friendly releases. Tannat is a varietal not many people recognize. It originated in France and has become the national grape of Uruguay. It tastes very much like Cabernet Sauvignon and is touted as one of the most heart-healthy red wines.” He remarks, “We like to show wines that are ‘off the beaten path’ to make our wine tasting events out of the ordinary and more educational.”

He continues, “With the 2011 Santoreggia, Sangiovese/Merlot, Toscana IGT, Italy (ITA690) $16.99 you have a superb food wine. We encourage people to try with a variety of cheeses from Italy. Our Tanglerose, Backyard Red, Lot 13A, California (CAL935) $16.99 and our 2011 Tria, Syrah, Central Coast, California (CAL930) $19.99 are not new labels to the Traveling Vineyard, but they are repeat performances of very successful wines that fit the palate of our typical wine tasting event guest. Our Tanglerose Backyard Red has been crafted fresh three times over the last several years. It carries no vintage on the label as it is combines grapes harvested in multiple years. This year it’s comprised mainly of Zinfandel and Merlot. Our Tria Syrah is a premium release made using 100% estate grown grapes sourced from the oldest vineyards in the coveted Sierra Foothills.”
