Seiko Epson Selects Cypress’s Programmable Clock Generator Die for Small-Footprint Crystal Oscillator

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) today announced that Seiko Epson has selected Cypress’s CY5077C programmable clock generator die for the new SG-8003CG programmable crystal oscillator from its popular SG-8003 series. The easy-to-program SG-8003CG is an ultra-small programmable crystal oscillator, with a package that measures 2.5 mm x 2.0 mm x 0.8 mm. The CY5077C die delivers precise, programmable frequency output to the entire SG-8003 series. The flexible combination provides fast time-to-market and low power consumption for a wide variety of low-volume electronics equipment.

The SG-8003CG crystal oscillator’s tiny package addresses the electronics market’s demand for smaller printed circuit boards. In addition to its small size, the CY5077C die contains a unique oscillator tuning circuit for fine-tuning its output frequency from 1 to 166 MHz, allowing it to be programmed in-package at the last stage of production prior to shipping. This flexibility enables fast-turn manufacturing, even for low-volume applications, without the need for dedicated crystals. “Seiko Epson has partnered with Cypress for more than a decade to develop and expand our product portfolio with their programmable clock generators,” said Takeshi Miyazawa, Microdevices Operations Division Sales Manager at Seiko Epson. “The CY5077C clock generator die is the ideal solution for this application, allowing us to reduce the size of our crystal oscillator while providing the frequency programming our customers need to address a broad range of products.”

“Cypress has a long-standing history of collaboration with Seiko Epson, pairing our programmable clock generators and spread spectrum clocks with their crystal oscillator technology to provide just the right solutions for our customers,” said Sonal Chandrasekharan, Business Unit Director for Timing Solutions at Cypress. “With the ultra-fast pace of development and focus on cutting time-to-market in the electronics industry, our programmable solutions are well positioned to accommodate late design changes.”
