Audible to Release Original Recording Based on Never-before Published Transcripts of the Nuremberg Trials

Audible, Inc., the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word content, today announced the release of Report from Nuremberg, a new audio production which blends journalism, history, reenactment and performance to deliver an astonishing you-are-there experience of the notorious war trial. The text of the audiobook is based on reporting by Burson-Marsteller co-founder Harold Burson and his colleagues who covered the trial for the American Forces (radio) Network, originally broadcast in 1945-46. The text has never before been published, in any format; the original broadcasts are lost and no longer available.

“On the 68th anniversary of the trial’s opening, this new production makes these infamous proceedings come alive again,” said Gregory Voynow, VP Content Business Development at Audible. “By reimagining for us what it was like to experience first-hand this groundbreaking trial and to witness close up the eccentric personalities and depraved behavior of the Nazi ruling class, this talented ensemble of actors has recreated an historical moment sure to rivet scholars and armchair historians alike.”

In conjunction with the release of the audiobook, Burson will donate his Nuremberg transcripts to The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Burson will also be interviewed by the Museum for its oral history archives. “This collection and testimony will help shed light onto the Allies’ efforts to bring some measure of justice to the perpetrators of genocide. The Museum is working to rescue the evidence of the Holocaust and build the most comprehensive collection of Holocaust material which will serve as the primary evidence of this crime when the eyewitnesses to the event and its aftermath are no longer able to tell their stories,” said Scott Miller, Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Museum. Audible will also donate the audio recording to the Museum.

Report from Nuremberg further establishes Audible, which has recently launched original audio content in collaboration with Showtime’s ‘Homeland’ series as well as with Playtone, Tom Hanks’s production company, as the home of innovative audio.

Burson has received numerous honors and awards, and was named “the most influential PR person in the 20th century” in a survey conducted by PR Week. Burson-Marsteller is among the largest public relations agencies in the world; at age 92, Burson is still active in the business.
