As jobless claims spike, U.S. stocks fall

U.S. stocks retreated from record levels reached during the previous sessions and opened lower on Thursday after weekly jobless claims rose to a highest level since late March. Investors also focused on housing and manufacturing data due at 10 a.m. Eastern.
