PRLog - Jan. 14, 2014 - CHICAGO -- Drivers throughout Chicagoland who were keeping an eye on the 2014 North American International Auto Show got a treat today (January 14), as Acura unveiled the 2015 TLX to a stunned crowd. Acura revealed both a Prototype model and a GT Race Car version, both of which foreshadow a bright future for fans of the luxury automaker.

The 2015 TLX Prototype is being heralded as a vehicle that showcases both the design and performance direction for the production model, which will be available at Chicagoland Acura dealers in mid-2014.

The TLX Prototype boasts a truly stunning aesthetic design. Painted in Acura Athletic Red Pearl, the car features a stance that’s low and wide, dynamically sculpted fender arches, and shortened front and rear overhangs, all of which is tied together by strong character lines and taut body surfaces. Acura’s Jewel Eye LED headlights give the car a bright-eyed appearance while providing exceptional on-road illumination. The prototype also features tailor-made side mirrors with a row of LED lights fused to the base of each.

While the TLX will sport a smaller exterior footprint than many similar models, the interior will be approximately the same size as the current TL, which will give it one of the most spacious interiors of any midsize luxury sedan on the market.

As with any holistically designed performance vehicle, the 2015 TLX will offer performance in line with its aggressive styling. Two engines will be offered with this stellar sports sedan:

• The base engine will be a 2.4L 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine that takes advantage of technologies like direct injection and Acura’s i-VTEC valvetrain. This engine is lighter than similar-displacement engines Acura has produced in the past, and will come mated to a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

• For drivers who demand the highest-performance engine available, there will be the option of a 3.5L SOHC V6 with direct injection, VTEC variable valve control, and Variable Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation technology. A new nine-speed automatic transmission comes paired with this engine, which is also available with all-wheel drive.

The TLX GT Race Car was also unveiled at the show in Detroit. Similar in design to the prototype, the GT Race Car edition is outfitted with aerodynamic performance parts, a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, and other performance-oriented enhancements. This model will move Acura into the top category of the Pirelli World Challenge.

Fans of luxury cars and performance vehicles alike will be anticipating the launch of the 2015 Acura TLX later this year. For more information, visit a Chicagoland Acura dealer today.
