By: PRLog
PRLog - Feb. 3, 2014 - BERLIN, N.J. -- Students and staff at Star Career Academy schools in three states will “Go Red” to support the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” fundraising campaign in February. Last year, Star Career Academy students and staff raised more than $1,500 for “Go Red for Women.”

The Star Career Academy Brick, N.J. location will kick off its activities on Feb. 4, selling pins for $1 and will conduct a bake sale on Feb. 13. Additionally students will have the opportunity to pay a dollar to purchase a heart dedicated to a family or friend, which will then be displayed throughout the school. Students may also make a donation to wear jeans and a red shirt on that day.

At the school’s Clifton, N.J. location, students will wear red clothing on February 5, have the chance to buy a pin from Feb. 3-7 and on Feb. 6, conduct a bake sale to support “Go Red.” Star Career Academy students and staff in Egg Harbor, N.J. will participate in the Red Dress Reception held by The Heart Institute at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center on Feb. 12.

In Philadelphia, students and staff will participate in a “Wear Red” day one day out of every week in February, while the Audubon, Pa. location will conduct wear red days with a donation and its cosmetology students will participate in “Free Haircut Tuesdays” with a donation during the month.

The Syosset location on Long Island in New York, will conduct a “Wear Red” event, sell pins and culinary students will prepare red velvet cupcakes with proceeds going to the charity.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined.  The American Heart Association designates February 7 as “National Wear Red Day” to increase awareness in the fight against heart disease in women.
