San Francisco Mayor Announces Full Scholarships Available for Tekmeca’s Newly Launched Cloud Computing Academy; Students Gain ‘Real-World’ Experience at Leading Local C-commerce Platform
PRLog - Feb. 11, 2014 - SAN FRANCISCO -- Silicon Valley c-commerce innovator, myTAG, is the first technology company tapped to partner with local non-profit enterprise Tekmeca in a new learning-training-mentoring program, the Cloud Computing Academy.

San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee announced at a TechSF event at Salesforce.com [NYSE: CRM] on Friday, Feb. 7, that the Academy’s entire inaugural class of 20 San Francisco residents will receive full scholarships from the City’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development. myTAG will serve as the incubator for the Academy’s students learning junior-level cloud programming skills and experience in an intensive 20-week course beginning this spring. The Cloud Computing Academy aims to strengthen the career skills and prospects of local workers, improve the local talent pipeline, and promote general civic benefits as a result.

Founded in 2011, myTAG has created a unique local c-commerce platform that harnesses the power of social community through its proprietary tagging system and rich functionality that provides a much-needed layer of transparency to online commerce.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be a charter partner of Tekmeca’s Cloud Computing Academy,” said myTAG CEO and Founder Tony Pham. “A key tenet of our corporate philosophy is harnessing the powerful and very real benefits of being connected to one’s local community. We see this partnership as an opportunity to provide the kind of training people need to thrive in this competitive local information economy.

Pham added: “As a rapidly growing technology startup, we depend upon having skilled programmers, and a workforce that is comfortable with cloud computing concepts, so we genuinely value these kinds of public-private partnerships that benefit everyone in our society.”

Alfred Cheung, co-founder of Tekmeca, said: “We want our students to learn in the kind of environment that illuminates the curriculum. In working with myTAG, we know that the company’s sophisticated and evolving platform is precisely the setting students need to help them thrive in our fast-paced, evolving IT job market that values real experience.”

myTAG aims to upend the online marketplace by adding a much-needed level of safety by weaving social media and peer influence into the process. myTAG, San Jose, California, allows local users to buy and sell online, for free, while leveraging their online reputations and creativity, and helping sellers find buyers, and vice versa, through its patent-pending tagging system.

The Cloud Computing Academy scholarships are open to San Francisco residents who are 18+, unemployed, low-income, under-employed, changing careers, or otherwise not able to access job skills renewal. Applications are accepted beginning February 15. More information can be found here: tekmeca.org.
