MHL Consortium Announces More Than Half a Billion MHL Products Have Shipped Worldwide

MHL, LLC today announced that more than half a billion MHL® products have been shipped worldwide since the inception of the standard. Along with devices such as tablets, smartphones and DTVs, MHL’s growing adopter base is continuing to innovate to create a diverse ecosystem of products that includes Android PCs, automotive infotainment systems, A/V receivers, Blu-ray Disc™ players, docking stations, media sticks, prosumer accessories, wearable displays, and more.

MHL technology is the de facto standard for outputting HD and 4K UltraHD video from a mobile device to a larger display, all while charging the device. MHL also enables the TV remote control to be used to navigate the mobile device for a truly untethered experience. MHL’s growth is expected to continue with next-generation products rolled out this year based on the latest MHL 3.0 specification, which offers new capabilities such as 4K support and power charging of up to 10W.

“The beauty of an open standard is that it spurs innovation. Any adopter with a product vision can make it a reality and the possibilities are endless. More MHL products are being released that push the boundaries of where we thought the technology could go, helping to drive MHL’s continued growth,” said Dr. Judy Chen, president of the MHL Consortium.
