ExpoCredit to Present “Mitigating Factoring Fraud” at 20th Annual IFA Conference

Carlos Escobar, president of ExpoCredit, a global financial services firm, has been selected as a panelist for the 20th Annual International Factoring Association (IFA) Conference to be held in San Francisco, April 9-12, 2014. The IFA, an educational and networking event, is the world’s largest conference dedicated to financial services companies providing business funding through factoring and Accounts Receivable (AR) financing.

Mr. Escobar, who has a broad range of industry experience, will participate in a panel discussion on Mitigating Fraud in Latin America. He will be sharing insights from an incident of high-level fraud experienced by the company several years ago. “There are lessons to be learned and precautions every company must take when doing business across borders, especially in emerging market regions,” says Escobar. “Forums such as this conference provide opportunities to benefit from the experiences, knowledge base and best practices of industry experts in meeting challenges.”

He points out that in today’s global economy, geographic-specific risks are a challenge. When doing business outside of the U.S., it is not unusual to encounter different legal structures, varying business practices, lack of transparency or to find cultural norms that can set the stage for dishonest dealings. “Businesses must be wary and study each environment in order to counter the risks,” he says.

According to Mr. Escobar, Latin America is very attractive to ExpoCredit. “As a large and dynamic area, Latin America offers favorable growth potential,” he says. “However, it is important to enter the marketplace equipped with the knowledge and expertise to navigate the waters in that region of the world.”

With 14 years of experience conducting business with Latin America, ExpoCredit understands the business risks, and has the strategic methodologies for mitigating those risks. “ExpoCredit knows Latin America,” says Escobar. “Based on our knowledge and success in the region, ExpoCredit is the perfect partner to work with when you have clients in Latin America wanting to sell to the U.S. and Europe.”

Mr. Escobar’s panel, “Factoring Fraud in Latin America”, will be presented on Friday, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. All sessions take place at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco.
