After 30 Years’ Expansion, California Shipping Company Expands Online

By: PRLog
PRLog - Jun. 2, 2014 - LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- In 1985, California native Robert Goodman set up a small, independent shipping and packaging company in his busy Los Angeles neighborhood. Other local businesses were quick to recognize Box Brothers as a superior alternative to larger companies for their regional shipping needs. Repeat business and steady growth helped Goodman to become a leader in the shipping, packaging, and custom crating industries.

The company’s rapid success led to equally rapid expansion as Goodman opened a second and third location to accommodate the volume of demand and make his services more accessible to more distant Los Angeles customers. Soon enough, that expansion took the company beyond L.A. and into San Francisco and other California localities. Now, nearly thirty years after the opening of Goodman’s first location, Box Brothers has expanded to twenty-five locations spread across California and three other states.

The expansion is virtually unprecedented for an independent operation, especially in an industry where it faces stiff competition from national corporations like FedEx. It averages to the opening of one new store for each year of operation, and current company president Mark Frydman expects the pace of growth to continue unabated.

Frydman cites this optimism as the source of Box Brothers’ new strategy for expanding its online presence. After 30 years, most of the company’s business still comes from in-store walk-ins, but Frydman recognizes that customers are more and more likely to research their products and services online before committing to any individual provider.

At the same time, while Box Brothers remains essentially a California institution, its customer base is more diverse than ever, while its shipping services have been successful partly because of their reliable global reach. In order to be continually accessible to customers and potential customers near all of its locations and all of its shipping destinations, Box Brothers has officially launched a newly designed website where customers can search locations and browse products and services.

According to Frydman, when new customers walk into one of Box Brothers’ locations, they are often stunned by the range of specific services offered, including art shipping, antique shipping, motorycle shipping, college, senior, and small business moving, and a variety of specialty boxes. Now customers can explore these options online and avoid being overwhelmed by them when first visiting a Box Brothers store.

Frydman is hopeful that this online interface will only accelerate the pace of his company’s growth. But even as that happens, the Box Brothers story will remain firmly rooted in California. And as the story of a leading shipping company, it will help to keep California businesses in touch with the whole world.
