Michael Gross Takes on Dementia Role

By: PRLog
Once, America’s favorite dad, Steven Keaton of Family Ties, takes an opposite role showing the effects of the devastating illnesses of Dementia and Alzheimer’s, in the film “Our Father”.
PRLog - Jun. 20, 2014 - LONG BEACH, Calif. -- When many of us see Michael Gross we immediately remember him from the long-running, “Family Ties” series, or perhaps all of the “Tremors” franchises. But recently Mr. Gross has taken on a starring role a little closer to home in the short film, “Our Father,” written and directed by Long Beach filmmaker, Linda Palmer.

What drew Mr. Gross to the project was his own experience caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s for nearly ten years, and the well-received, darkly-crafted script.  Palmer, inspired by events in her own family, tells the story of their estranged father suffering from late-stage dementia, revealing secrets to his son which begin to heal a broken family from the abuses of this misogynist, racist, wife-beating bully.

“This hit close to home.  Watching my wife’s mother slip away from us was both painful and frustrating, but from the moment I read this piece, I felt I had to be a part of it, not only for the artistic challenge, but as a homage to Mom.”  MICHAEL GROSS

The producers Linda Palmer, Mark Cardone, Sandy Robinson (all Long Beach residents), and Colleen Keane are on their way to bringing this film to fruition almost exclusively from the donations of caregivers or family who have dealt with loved ones experiencing this horrible disease.  In fact, most of the crew and talent have personal connections to several issues in the film, so it truly has been a labor of love.

In the film’s final phase of post production, the filmmakers are reaching out to their community to raise the additional funding needed to tell this provocative story.  See a brief teaser at their Indiegogo campaign link:

The unique perks offered by the filmmakers for this campaign include a phone call with Michael Gross, lunch with  him and the other stars of the film including, Michael Worth (God’s Ears), Eileen Grubba (Five Year Engagement), David Topp (The Box), Aaron Stall (The Ruffian), and Isaiah Lucas (Waiting in the Wings).  There is also a dinner with several of the stars and the producers where you will see unseen footage from the film, and even get IMDB Associate Producer credits on the film!
