PRLog - Aug. 4, 2014 - LAGOS, Nigeria -- The hunt is still on for the best and brightest African innovators as Etisalat Nigeria is still open to receiving entries for the 2014 Etisalat Pan-African Prize for Innovation.

Chief Executive Officer at Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher explained that the pan-African prize aims to create a new layer to the classic character of innovation that Etisalat is known for by motivating Africans worldwide to bring their creative talents forward for the overall socio-economic benefits of the teeming community of mobile telecommunications services consumers.

"A core value we pride ourselves of at Etisalat Nigeria is that we are the leading cursor of innovation in the telecommunications industry. As a result, the core of the Etisalat business is developing innovative initiatives, products and services to expose Nigeria and Africa in general to the opportunities that abound with broadband. Etisalat recognizes the un-relinquishing importance of broadband in healthcare, education, business, security beyond communication through voice and data; and the Pan-African Prize for innovation is designed to reward corporate organisations, small and growing businesses, and individuals for developing advanced mobile broadband solutions and platforms in Africa,” he said.

The Etisalat Pan-African Prize for Innovation is awarded in two categories; the most innovative product/service and most innovative idea. The winner of the most innovative product/service will be rewarded with a cash prize of $25,000 while the winner of the most innovative idea will be rewarded with a cash prize of $10,000. The Etisalat Pan-African prize for innovation will also be one of the major attractions at the 17th Annual AfricaCom Conference and awards gala dinner scheduled to take place in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2014.

With the 2014 edition of the Etisalat Pan-African prize for innovation promising to be interesting, Etisalat Nigeria continues to urge more entries. “We are happy to encourage developers in the ICT industry with focus on those who innovate to drive the use of mobile broadband in Africa. We are encouraged by the enthusiasm that has welcomed this prize since 2012 when it was launched and we hope to build on the success attained so far by empowering more innovators in Nigeria and Africa,” Willsher concluded.

Introduced in 2012, the Etisalat Pan-African Prize for Innovation is strategically designed to celebrate and reward the best and brightest innovators of African descent who are able to present the most innovative mobile broadband product, idea or service that positively impacts African mobile users.
